Institiuid Teicneolaiochta Leitir Ceanainn. Letterkenny Institute of
Technology (LYIT), Co Donegal, Ireland is a technological third level
institute offering full time courses to undergraduates and postgraduates in
a variety of disciplines. It also has an extensive continuing education
programme offering professional qualifications. It also offers research and
consultancy services and participates in a wide variety of EU programmesA2.

Letterkenny Institute of Technology is very well equipped with the
technology to use this as a tool in its strategic planning. Increasingly
the demand for this technology will begin to cause us to focus on the
needs of area in this regard. Already. LYIT are at the stage of a needs
analysis of Co Donegal region, have identified groups who would use the
opportunity to move away from traditional type learning and move towards
distance Learning. Already on campus use Intranet to enable fulltime
students to access lecture notes. LYIT find on the threshold of new and
challenging times when traditional modes of syllabus delivery are called
into question and must adapt to future modes of syllabus delivery which
will be flexible, user friendly and tailored to meet the needs of
individual groups.
To share in the expertise of other countries with a long tradition of
"folkschool" learning and in so doing both to learn from best
international practice and to synthesise what would be relevant to our
needs. To make analysis on non-formal education; experience in European
Countries will allow to think about foundation of FHS in Ireland.
